Work required: Write a report to explain your study progression over the course of this year. Discuss the ways in which your key academic skills have developed and improved (or not as may be the case), how and why has this happened; discuss areas where you still have difficulties and require further improvement; describe how you have become a reflective learner, and the benefits that this has brought;‌‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌ and give yourself some key action points for improvement. This should not be an informal monologue documenting how you’ve enjoyed socialising, waking up at 11am each day, and playing for the basketball team etc. We want you to show that you are aware of your own learning, how you have developed, and where you can look to in the future.

Pizzeria “Comet Ping Pong” Is a Child Pornography Ring
One of the latest trends has been the posting of “fake news”—that is, news that is made up for the purpose of accomplishing a certain goal or simply for entertainment purposes. On December 4, 2016, an entire Washington, DC, neighborhood was under lockdown due to a fake news story about a pizzeria that was allegedly a child pornography ring run by Hillary Clinton and her campaign manager, John Podesta. The fake story was posted on social media and shared via Twitter and Facebook by hundreds of people, including the son of former national security advisor Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.
After reading the story, a man decided to take matters into his own hands and entered the pizzeria with an assault rifle, which he pointed at the employees. He fired several shots before he was arrested. People who believe fake news can pose a real danger to society. Fake news stories have always existed, but they were printed in magazines everyone knew were not serious publications. Today, many fake stories are shared by websites and people who look legitimate, which makes them believable and can result in violent threats and bloodshed.
What Would You Do?
What do you think motivates people to post fake news?
When you read a story, how do you know that it is true?
What are some examples in which fake news or disinformation campaigns facilitate some of the crime and security issues we’ve discussed this course?
What role do you think content (news) providers have to verify the accuracy of the information they post on their site?
